Walter Cano is a trumpet player, composer, and currently serves in the role of Family Support Advocate and Equipment Specialist at Seattle JazzED. Influenced by the great jazz trumpet masters such as Clifford Brown and Snooky Young as well as the music of Peruvian greats Óscar Avilés and Arturo Cavero, Walter’s musical background is highly diverse.
Walter maintains an extensive performance career, having played across the United States and internationally with a variety of groups. Some of the artists he has worked with include the Etienne Charles Big Band, Ulysses Owens Jr.’s New Century Big Band, the Rodney Whitaker Sextet, Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and Kurt Elling.
The Walter Cano Septet showcases his passion for the tradition of jazz trumpet while honoring his Peruvian roots, resulting in a highly personalized, unique sound. This group takes on a variety of configurations from quartet to octet and debuted at the legendary Cliff Bell’s jazz club in Detroit.
